Most households these days not only boast a large screen TV, but also the latest games consoles, Blu Ray players and movie surround sound systems. With all this technology at our finger tips, plus the new wave of exciting 3D technology, why would anyone ever head out to the cinema ever again? So, what does this mean for the future of the cinema, and will we ever leave the house again? Read on to find out more…

Your home cinema…

So, you’ve got your giant large screen LED TV, that’s hooked up to your games console, and your Blu Ray Player, and your cinema quality surround sound. Oh, and you’ve now go 3D TV too. What you’ve effectively created is your very own home cinema that will rival anything you’re likely to see on MTV cribs. Your video games look amazing, watching 3D football and sports on your large screen LCD TV is just like being at the game, and your Blu-rays are able to not only capture the picture quality of the cinema, but also the surround sound too. So, why on earth would you every leave the comfort of your own home ever again?

Sure, you may be missing out on the popcorn, nachos and pick ‘n’ mix, but a quick trip to Tesco’s can easily fix that. Once you’ve got all of your supplies, your sofa is reclined and your film is ready, why would you ever trade this in for a trip to the cinema?

When you can achieve a movie like experience in the comfort of your own home, there’s no need to hit the cinema ever again. Sure, you may have to wait a little longer for the newest films to come out on Blu-ray, but it’s more than worth the wait. Your favourite film comes with a lot more than just the feature film, you’ll get extra discs that contain hours of bonus material too. Something that you simply can get at the cinema.

The death of the cinema…

Cinema numbers have been steadily dropping over the years and the fact that more and more people are able to create a their very own home cinema and watch films in 3D could finally cause the death of the cinema. Let’s face it. Who wants to queue up to buy those pricey tickets, then queue again to buy overpriced drinks and popcorn, and then queue one more time to get into the screen?

Next, you’re greeted with groups of teenagers who eat, talk and play with their phones all the way through the film, ruining it for you. But, if you’re in the comfort of your own home, you don’t have to put up with this nonsense. Plus, if you’re watching your film in your very own home cinema set up, you don’t have to miss important parts of the plot if you need a potty break.

So one day soon, cinemas may be a thing of the past, and you’ll instead be able to watch the latest 3D film in the comfort of your own home.

So, it’s finally arrived… 3D TV in our very own homes. Whilst some think that this is the most exciting thing to happen to TV technology in years, the sceptics among us think it’s just yet another ploy to push us into parting with out cash and buying a brand new TV. Read on to find out more about this revolutionary technology, and how it could change the way we watch TV forever…

3D Films…

We all remember slipping on those silly red and green plastic 3D glasses and going to see our very first 3D film (mine was Jaws 3D – very scary), and just how exciting the whole experience was. The screen came alive and simply made the film you were watching that much more enjoyable and even more of a spectacle. In the last decade or so, 3D films seemed to be few and far between, but recently they seem to have come back – big time. With the release of Avatar and the new Alice In Wonderland, the whole world has gone gaga for 3D once again. Many films such as the new Robin Hood and Clash of the Titans were sent back to the studios and changed to a 3D format to keep up with the new trend for everything 3D.

3D Films at Amazon.co.uk

3D TV…

This new wave of 3D cinema has tied in nicely with the new 3D TV technology that’s currently sweeping the nation. Although 3D films are very exciting, the idea of watching 3D TV in the comfort of your own home still seems a little too futuristic, but it’s now a reality. 3D Football games have already started to be broadcast on television, the world cup will also broadcast in 3D and SKY 3D will soon be available all over the country. It won’t be long before we are a nation who want to watch all of our favourite TV shows and films in with our 3D glasses on.

Sky 3D

3D Football…

Most guys out there are extremely excited at the prospect of watching all the world cup games in stunning HD 3D quality. For those that weren’t able to get tickets and see the games live, this is certainly the next best thing, as it’ll be just like you’re sitting in the stands.

But, it’s not just football that is being broadcast in the HD 3D, every sport you can imagine will soon start to follow suit, and we’ll be able to watching everything from basketball, to tennis and feel like we’re watching the action in real life.

Sky Sports

3D TV Technology…

This new wave of technology will certainly have an impact on our lives, and will make watching television in the comfort of our own homes that much more exciting and appealing. Watching our favourite show like Lost or 24 in 3D will make them so much more exciting. And, bigger screen TVs teamed with HD 3D and high quality surround sound system may mean that we never have to venture out the the cinema every again!

We’ve waited a long time for the much predicted development of 3D TV but, finally, it is now a reality. The success of big screen movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland have convinced the electronics manufacturers that the public are now ready to be entertained in 3 dimensions. Each of the main TV brands are planning to launch high definition TV’s with built-in 3D capability later this year.

How Dose 3DTV Work?

The principal behind 3D is basically quite simple – one image is broadcast to your left eye and one to your right. The glasses you wear to experience a 3D film will shutter each eye many times a second to make the two images appear as one. ‘Active Shutter’ glasses with built-in electronics synchronise with the broadcast image to create the 3D effect. Generally a free pair will come with the TV and extra pairs will cost around £100.

What’s on Offer?

Sky will be offering dedicated 3D broadcasts and have already trialled the concept with Premiership Football broadcasts in pubs. As the service develops the will be more programs available including films. You’ll also be able to buy Blu-ray discs for the latest blockbuster movies filmed in 3D – although you’ll need a 3D enabled player to view them.

SKY 3D

The BBC and other mainstream broadcasters have expressed an interest and will launch their own services in due course.

What 3D TV’s are available?

All the big names will be offering 3D TV’s by the end of the year.

Sony have announced a range of Bravia LCD TV’s starting at around £2,300

Samsung are offering the greatest selection of TV’s with the option of LED, LCD and Plasma screens as well as a 3D enabled Blu-ray player.

LG will have two large format TV’s available soon – a 47-inch and 55-inch TV as well as a Blu-ray player

Panasonic, already available in the States, have unveiled a range of Viera TV’s and will be launching a Blu-ray player soon.
